Village hires new manager

Published Friday, October 17, 2003 2:43 PM MDT

The Village of Milan has hired Carlos A. Montoya to fill the vacant village manager position created when David Jiron resigned his position in August. Montoya started his new job on Oct. 13.

The new manager brings an impressive array of experience to the position and plenty of optimism as well.

"There is a lot of potential in the Village of Milan," said Montoya. "We have instant access to I-40 and the railroad runs right through town. Hopefully we can attract businesses to Milan and will provide jobs that will keep the young people from having to leave the area."

Montoya's has had some experience in attracting business to small New Mexico communities as a city councilman in Los Lunas from 1986 to 1998. He has also held positions as an accounting supervisor for the city of Albuquerque, business and fiscal manager for Valencia County, and president and manager of Statewide Office Supply. He was employed by the New Mexico Department of Labor prior to accepting the position in Milan.

Montoya is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served aboard ship from 1976 to 1979. His resume states that Montoya entered the University of Albuquerque after his hitch in the service and earned his bachelors of business administration degree in 1984. He also has an associates degree in accounting from TVI.

Montoya said, "I want to ensure the village residents that all financial aspects of the Village of Milan are well taken care of." - John T. Felty
