Two Division II basketball games under one roof

Published Thursday, November 20, 2008 5:21 PM MST

GRANTS - The second annual Sky City Classic brings an all in-state showdown to the Port of the Pirates tonight.

The first game features University of the Southwest, in its first basketball season, against New Mexico Highland's University.

NMHU was led by Chris Dunn, a native Hobbs player, to its season opener victory over Eastern New Mexico, 81-74.

While USW team members struggle in their season, they look to former Manzano High School star Cesar Cuevas for their first victory.

Game two revisits a battle from the first classic, when Western New Mexico University lost to Eastern New Mexico University 78-72. The game was tied with only 2:30 left in the game before ENMU was able to break away. WNMU, coming off a successful season last year, will be looking to better their one win, one loss record. However, ENMU (0-2) will try to pick up its first win of the season.

The games will be covered by Gallup broadcaster Sammy “Sammy C” Chioda with a play-by-play on www.provewnetworks.com.

Seats are $10 for both games. Game one tips off at 6 p.m. at the Grants High School Gym.
