School board candidates announced

GRANTS - Candidates for school board seats in three districts filed their declarations of candidacy with the Cibola County Clerk's Office on Tuesday. The names are listed as they will appear on the Feb. 3, 2009 ballot following a drawing.

DISTRICT 1 - The current board member, Mark Thompson will not seek re-election. The candidates are Sharon Young, Jerald Smith, Rita Suazo, Walter Meech and Emily Cheromiah.

DISTRICT 2 - The seat is now held by Dion Sandoval and the candidates are Loraine Quintana, Alex Griego and Sandoval.

DISTRICT 3 - Earl Chavez currently holds this seat. The candidates are Jolynn Sandoval, Chavez and Kyle Roundy.

Any person wishing to be a write-in candidate must file a declaration of intent at the County Clerk's Office before 5 p.m. on Dec. 30, 2008.

Any person who is not now registered to vote in Cibola County and wishes to vote in the School Board election should register before 5 p.m. on Jan 6, 2009 at the Cibola County Clerk's Office.

Polling places in District 1 will be Cubero Elementary School, Laguna Council Building, Mesita Recreation Hall, Paguate-Bender Hall, Encinal Recreation Hall, Paraje Recreation Hall, Seama Recreation Hall.

In District 2, voters will cast their ballots at San Rafael Elementary School, Grants High School, Los Alamitos Middle School, The Way, the Truth and the Life Church, Grants City Hall.

District 3 residents will vote at Mount Taylor Elementary School, Grants Senior Citizens Center, The Way, the Truth and the Life Church, New Mexico State University - Grants Campus.

Absentee voters can cast their ballots at the County Clerk's Office on Jan. 9, 2009 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until 5 p.m. on Jan 30, 2009.
