St. Teresa hosts family science night

GRANTS - On March 5 St. Teresa School hosted its first annual Family Science Night, sponsored by Sandia Laboratories. There were so many exciting experiments available that it was hard to decide where to start first. Some of the experiments that families could do together ranged from making silly slime, creating chemical reactions and applying friction to the construction of buildings using marshmallows. Approximately 70 students and parents participated. This was quite an event for families to enjoy together. The school intends to schedule Family Science Night again next year.

On March 6, the third, seventh and eighth grade students traveled to Gallup to attend the Bishop Hastrich Teacher and Student of the Year award ceremony for the Diocese of Gallup. They were there to honor the third grade teacher MaryAnn White and eighth grader Kaitlyn Barringer. Congratulations to both of them. We are all very proud of them.

This past weekend was the Regional Science Fair for the junior and senior divisions. Several of our students were entered and did very well. Chelsea Griego, an eighth grader won first place in Microbiology for her project "The Darkness That Lies Within". She also won the Grand Award in the Junior division for her project. Joseph Trujillo, in the eighth grade, won a first place in Earth and Space. Suchin Patel, a sixth grader, took second place in Chemistry. These students will now move on to the State Science Fair to be held in Socorro later this month.
