GRANTS- The heavy winds on April 15 blew the St. Pius Lady Sartans in town for a district duel with the Grants High School Lady Pirates (4-7 overall, 0-1 district). Unfortunately it was an ugly day weather wise, and execution wise, for the Lady Pirates. Grants pitchers Evelena Navajo and Tamera McDermott issued 12 base on balls to the patient hitting Lady Sartans. With the troubles finding the strike zone and errors starting to pile up, it seemed as if the inning wouldn't come to a close. After 40 minutes, and 14 runs the first inning came to a merciful end on a ground out. The bottom of the first inning was no better for the Lady Pirates as the top half, as each of three ladies to come up to bat struck out against the hard throwing St. Pius pitcher.

Grants started the top of third collecting a ground out, giving the fans something to cheer about, however, it was short lived as the inning began to slowly unwind and St. Pius put a six spot on the board. The Lady Pirates third and final pitcher Brittany Melonas had the only strike out in the game for Grants.
Needing to score 10 runs in the bottom of the third to extend the game, the Lady Pirates came to bat hoping to put something together against Hurley. It wasn't meant to be for the ladies on this day, as Hurley had their number and finished off her three inning no hitter, with another three strikeouts to finish the game with nine improving St Pius's record to (8-8, 1-0).
The Lady Pirates handed out walks 20 times in the game losing 24-0, for their fourth straight loss. The Lady Pirates have just two days to shake the lopsided loss off, as they will play host to Belen April 18 in a double header. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
