GPD seeks comment on truck purchase GRANTS - The Grants Police Department is proposing to purchase a 2009 Ford F-150 vehicle and equipment. The department is due to receive nearly $40,000 in federal funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is seeking public comment on the proposal. The truck would be used to transport equipment to and from special events, assist in pulling any trailers associated with the events, transporting the department's traffic speed trailer, the DWI trailer and to transport crime scene equipment. Residents are encouraged to call Police Chief Steve Sena at 287-2985 and give their input on the purchase. The funds are no-match grants and are a “one-time” award. The federal $4.3 million is being distributed to local governments based on population data and crime rate. The list of grants for each government can be viewed at www.ct.gov/opm/recovery. The funds can be used for service activities that support the goals of the Recovery Act such as technical assistance, personnel, equipment, supplies and contractual support.
