Estevan Baca

Funeral Mass for Estevan "Steve" Baca, 80 of Grants, will be held on June 18, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park with full military honors by the VFW Lodge 3321. The Very Rev. Alberto Avella will be the celebrant. A rosary will be held on June 17, 2009 at 7 p.m. the church.



He was born on July 11, 1928, in Albuquerque and passed away on June 15, 2009, in Albuquerque. He lived in the Atrisco neighborhood before moving to San Mateo and then to Grants, where he graduated from Grants High School. Baca was an active member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was a deputy with the Valencia County Sheriffs Office and retired from Homestake Mines.

He is survived by his children: Cecil Baca and wife Patricia of Albuquerque, and Ralph Baca of Las Vegas, Nev.; granddaughter: Erin Blaugrund and husband Matt of El Paso, Texas; great-grandchildren: Bailey Dickerson of El Paso, Texas and Brynne Blaugrund of El Paso, Texas; sisters: Lea Venable of Grants, Sara Baca of Oklahoma City, Okla., Francis Hartman and husband Chad of Mesquite, Nev.; brothers: Arsenio Baca and wife Carolyn of Little Rock, Ark. and Edward Baca of Grants; daughter-in-law: Mary Rita Baca of Grants and Ermelina "Mellie" Rael, Danny Rael and numerous beloved nieces and nephews and godchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Eva R. Baca; parents: Rafael Baca and Seferina Gonzales Baca; sons: Steven Baca, Joseph Baca and Lawrence Baca; brother: Norman Baca; sister: Clorinda Banmann and daughter-in-law Maxine Baca; Cecilia and Isidro Padilla, Isabel and Joe Rougemont, Pete Rael, Liberato and Elijia Rael.

Pallbearers will be: John Reynolds, Darell Evans, Geraro Ramirez, Ralph Sedillo, Brandon Rael, Gerry Venable, Mateo Blaugrund and Frankie Garcia.

Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
