Sedillos to play in the “Big Apple”

GRANTS- A truly outstanding accomplishment has been achieved by local softball star Dyonne Sedillos. Sedillos, through her stellar play, has been selected to play in a nationally televised game in New York City next summer.

Sedillos has been quite the busy ballplayer these days, not really having much of a summer break but she is just fine with that. She has been playing with an Albuquerque team known as Rampage this summer, a team compiled of girls from around the state. Playing for Rampage has in part led her to the opportunity to play in same city the Yankees and Mets play in.

“I've been really busy this summer playing in Albuquerque, but it has been a lot of fun for me and a great learning experience. The girls and coaches I've gotten to play with have been great,” Sedillos told the Beacon in a recent interview.

To be able to play in a nationally televised game is something that every athlete wants to say they've done by the time they hang up their hats, with many of them coming up short. Sedillos knows how fortunate she is.

“When I was first told that I was going to play in New York and on national TV I was really surprised and shocked, then extremely happy,” Sedillos commented. “It was something I didn't expect but it made me feel very happy that all the time and effort I've put in is paying off.”

Sedillos is one of a few girls selected from the Rampage team, with only a handful of girls from around the state being selected to go as well.

“It will be nice to have some girls there who I know and have played with, we are all very excited for next summer to get here,” Sedillos said.

In the meantime Sedillos will continue to hone her skills in preparation for her upcoming senior season, which will kick off in just a matter of a few weeks.

“It is crazy to think I'm already going to be a senior, these first three years have went by really fast but I'm looking forward my last year,” Sedillos stated. “I'm going to do cross country and wrestling prior to softball season, to keep myself in shape.”

When softball season rolls around Sedillos has high expectations and goals for herself and the Lady Pirates.

“Personally I would like to be selected to first team all district and state, and for our team I want to win as many games as possible and have a successful season,” Sedillos said.

Following her high school career here in Grants Sedillos would like to move on to the next level and compete in college softball, and with her already receiving the accolades she is that doesn't seem like a far-fetched idea.

“I would love to play college ball somewhere, but I'm just going to take one thing at time and see what opportunities I will have at the end of the season,” Sedillos concluded.
