Grants welcomes new physician - Gina Perez-Baron, MD GRANTS - Western New Mexico Medical Group in Grants is proud to welcome a new Physician, Gina Perez-Baron, MD. WNMMG is associated with Presbyterian Medical Services of New Mexico. Dr. Perez-Baron received her medical degree from Stanford University and her undergraduate degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from San Francisco State University. She completed her Family Practice residency at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez, Calif. While working in Contra Costa County, Dr. Perez-Baron founded “Frontline Richmond,” a non-profit organization focused on violence prevention and community building. She served as a clinic board member for the Indian Health Center of Santa Clara Valley. Dr. Perez-Baron is also a recipient of the Nora Lee Chisolm Award for Community Service and the Richard Juarez “Commitment to Community” Award. For Dr. Perez-Baron, the journey to becoming a family physician was a very personal one. “I grew up in a family that, like many, worked hard to make ends meet. I left home young, worked as a secretary, and didn't finish college for years. Later, I visited places where people struggled even more than my parents had - places like Egypt and Latin America. All this taught me the importance of health, hope and help in everyone's life. Like those who helped me, I wanted to support others and devote my life to making a difference in communities I care about. For me, that meant becoming a family physician.” “I am interested in helping young people get to college, especially those who, like me, come from communities considered 'underserved.' I started in community college, ultimately attended Stanford Medical School where I served on their Minority and Disadvantaged Admissions Board. I ran workshops helping students see their strengths and get into college. I would like to do that again. I chose to work for PMS because it goes where it's needed, caring for all people, including those who otherwise might not get the services they require.”
