Brunner said, “By obligating this money Rural Development affirms its commitment to ensure that residents of Laguna Pueblo have clean, safe and healthy water for many years to come.”
Laguna's existing system is more than 40 years old, causing the water pressure and water availability to be severely compromised.
The proposed project will replace portions of the aging, inadequate, and under-sized water mains with PVC pipe which in turn will provide enough water to meet current and future demands. The project also includes the replacement of two existing water tanks with 250,000-gallon water storage tanks, installation of valves to improve the functioning of the system, and replacement of all existing galvanized water service lines with PE service lines and meters.
The money is made possible through Rural Development's community program which targets federal investment to rural communities with the most serious drinking water quality, quantity and dependability problems.
