GRANTS - More than 200 high school students packed the Grants Rodeo Grounds on Oct. 10 and 11. The Grants Rodeo Association hosted the annual New Mexico High School Rodeo Association competition over the beautiful fall weekend. Less that ten local teenagers competed in the big event, according to GRA representative Jamie Holton.

“It is nice for Grants because all these people eat and sleep here,” said Holton as she looked around the crowded rodeo grounds. Trailers and students on horses were everywhere. Only three injures occurred during the event. One person was airlifted to Albuquerque.
The event is made possible because of Lodger's Tax support and contributions from the rodeo association.
The event is one of the association's big four for the year. The other three major events the association hosts are the state Junior High School Rodeo Association, the Leo Mitchell Memorial Barrel Race and the summer Fourth of July Junior Rodeo.
Holton added that the association is thankful for the Lodger's Tax Board's support and the support of the Grants Fire and Rescue Department.
