Robert Parsons

Published Monday, October 26, 2009 5:42 PM MDT

Funeral Services for Robert Lawrence “Bob” Parsons, 84, of Grants, were held on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Milan. Burial will follow at the Grants Memorial Park. Pastor Dale Thatcher will officiate.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, from 5-7 p.m. at the church.

Parsons was born on Jan. 16, 1925, in Pharoah, Okla., and passed away on Oct. 22, 2009, in Grants.

He was a lifetime logger/truck driver, hauling millions of board feet of timber out of the Zuni Mountains and Mount Taylor areas. Later, he switched to hauling ore from the uranium mines and gravel. Bob liked nothing better then telling funny jokes or playing tricks on somebody.

He was known and loved by many who called him friend, Uncle Bob, Grandpa, Old Grandpa and Dad.

Bob loved fishing, traveling the back roads, and playing with his great grandkids. Bob never met a child that he did not love or one that did not love him back. Everyone needs an Uncle Bob.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Peggy Parsons of the family home in Grants; daughters:  Cheryl Pemble and husband Ernie of Grants, Karla McDaugale and husband Tim of Grants, Penny McDaugale and husband Larry of Grants; grandchildren: Tyson McDaugale of Farmington, Ryan Pemble of Belen, Brandon Pemble and wife Rosa of Belen, Trenton McDaugale of Grants, Chanda Turley and husband Brad of Grants, Desiraye Lopez and husband Art of Grants; great-grandchildren: Tyler and Cheyla McDaugale, Pierce, Paige and Paizlyn Turley, Korbyn and Jastin Pemble, Jaidyn and Jace Lopez and Curza Armijo; sisters: Fern Thigpen of Grants, Doreen Yates and husband Dugan of Gallup and Joyce Dils and husband Charlie of Cortez, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Lawrence Parsons, Sr., and Myrtle Turnbull Parsons; infant son: Robert Keith Parsons; sisters: Lila Polish and Carrie South; brother: Bill Parsons and great grandchild Devin Armijo Pemble.

Pallbearers were: Scott Thigpen, Brandon Pemble, Sam Dils, Tyson McDaugale, Trenton McDaugale and Ryan Pemble.

Honorary pallbearers were: grandchildren: Mel Simpson, Rosa Pemble, John Meador, Chandra Turley, Brad Turley, Desiraye Lopez and Art Lopez.

Compassion Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
