The officer arrived at the residence on Pinon Street, to finds Rains at his home. After producing a search warrant and reading the Miranda warning, Rains agreed to tell all.
Rains admitted to forcibly entering the Bluewater Elementary School and took an unknown amount of food and a Palm Pilot. The man said he didn't have it, but could get it back.
After a short phone call, the deputy was directed to a different address where he found the stolen Palm Pilot.
“We're extremely happy the items were returned,” said Bluewater Elementary Principal Sergio Castanon, “we hope it stops now.”
The principal stated that the school had been broken into about ten times, food being the most stolen. The school is located on the same street where Rains was staying.
Deputies said they used a Crimestoppers tip from the community to put together a warrant for the arrest.
“We were asking for involvement from the community,” said Detective Dominic Pargas of CCSO. “We would like to thank the public for their input. We need those eyes and ears.”
Pargas said Crimestoppers has helped with several investigations and continues to provide an excellent platform for callers, while remaining anonymous, to give officers tips and be eligible for a reward.
Rains is being charged with one count of intent to commit theft or burglary, disposing of stolen property, and tampering evidence, all fourth degree felonies.
