Route 66 Casino gets major facelift

Published Thursday, March 11, 2010 5:36 PM MST

A new restaurant, live music stage, casino lounge, 200 brand new slots and a new non-smoking casino section are all part of Laguna's new Route 66 Casino Hotel coming this summer. A variety of new and exciting products and services will be introduced over the next several months.

The project will also include a brand new Ultimate Rewards Players Club, Poker Room, Bingo Hall, Casino Snack Bar and a reconfigured casino floor.

“This effort is designed to elevate the guest experience to be even better than before,” said Jerry Smith, president of Laguna Development Corporation. “We have listened carefully to customer feedback to develop an expansion of our facilities that will maintain our reputation for innovation and creativity while providing our customers with the things they have told us they would like to see at Route 66.”

All of the improvements have been carefully planned to minimize disruption of the daily operation. Many of the new features will be introduced individually leading up to the planned grand opening this summer.

One of the cornerstones of the project will be Thunder Road Cantina and Steakhouse. The 200-seat dining and entertainment experience will feature steaks and barbecue specialties in an exhibition kitchen. The cantina will include a full bar with a wide selection of specialty tequilas and beers. The bar will feature a live entertainment stage where an eclectic variety of music will be featured on weekends and holidays.

Smith also said, “We would like to thank the LDC Board of Directors for allowing us to develop and then fulfill a vision for how we continue to expand the popularity and profitability of Route 66 Casino Hotel to benefit our guests and the people of the Pueblo of Laguna.”

More details about each phase of the project will be announced in the coming weeks.
