Funeral Mass for Rosita M. Lorenzo, 97, of Paguate, will be held on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at 11 a. m., at St. Elizabeth Catholic Mission in Paguate. Burial will be at the Paguate Community Cemetery. A reception at the Elizabeth Bender Hall will follow the burial service.
A Rosary and traditional wake were held on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at 7 p. m., at the Irvin Jose home in Paguate.
Rosita "Rose" Lorenzo was born on Aug. 28, 1913, to Francisco and Louisa Alonzo Lorenzo, the fifth of seven children. "A-wah-mii", matriarch of the Roadrunner Clan, she passed away on Jan. 16, 2011.
She spent most of her life on the Laguna Reservation in Paguate Village as caretaker of the family home which is fondly referred to as "headquarters." Rose is affectionately known as "Ya Ya O" by her great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Her laughter, hugs and awesome cooking will be missed by all.
Rosita was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Lucia Lorenzo Jose and Josephine Lorenzo Ray; and brothers: Ray Lorenzo, Benjamin Lorenzo and David Lorenzo.
She is survived by her sister: Gertrude Lorenzo Francisco and husband Tony, and brother George Lorenzo, She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great great-grandchildren and in-laws.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nephews.
