Services for Santiago E. Rodriguez, 62, of San Rafael, N.M., will include a viewing at the San Rafael Catholic Church on Friday, May 18, 2012, at 5:30 p.m.
The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the church.
Interment will follow at San Rafael Cemetery with US Army Honors.
Santiago was born July 26, 1949, to Clorinda and José Rodriguez, Jr. in San Rafael.
He passed away Friday May 11, 2012, in San Rafael.
Santiago attended school at San Rafael Elementary, Webster Junior High and Grants High School.
He enlisted in the US Army in 1967 where he proudly and honorably served his country. He was stationed at numerous bases around the world.
He and his wife, Viola Gurule, were married on June 8, 1968, in the San Rafael Catholic Church.
Santiago retired from the New Mexico Department of Transportation in 2011. During his career he also worked the Kerr McGee Uranium Mine and Hanosh Chevrolet.
Santiago was an avid hunter, loved the outdoors, being a mechanic, a wood-hauler and was a Dallas Cowboys’ fan. He enjoyed playing basketball with his children and grandchildren.
Santiago was a member of the San Rafael Catholic Church.
He had a great love for his family that will be everlasting. Santiago was known for his laugh, kindness and willingness to help anyone in need. He was an overall great man and will be missed by all who knew him.
Santiago is survived by his wife of 43 years, Viola Gurule Rodriguez, of the family home; children: Ronnie and Sandy Rodriguez of San Rafael, Jose Rodriguez, III and companion June Jaure of Grants, N.M., Josie Rodriguez of San Rafael, Santiago Rodriguez, Jr. of San Rafael, Walter and Nikkita Rodriguez of San Rafael; his mother, Clorinda Rodriguez of San Rafael; mother-in-law, Josie Gurule of Grants; siblings: Prescilla and Tony Gallegos, Sr. of Milan, N.M., Vicentita (Bessie) DeBassige of San Rafael, Margaret and Manuel Manzanares of San Rafael, Mary (Oline) Rodriguez of San Rafael, Richard and Jaylene Rodriguez of Grants, Roger and Nadine Rodriguez of Milan, Theresa Zamora of Belen, Jeannette Aldaz and companion Mike Bloom, Elaine Rodriguez and companion Lorenzo Elias of Belen; brother-in-law, Henry Salas; grandchildren: Candace, Myranda and Mia Rodriguez, Raven Jaure all of Grants, Khalid, Santiago and Ernesto Monawar, Andrew and Gage Rodriguez all of San Rafael, Lena, Ronnie, Christopher and Serenity Rodriguez and Rudy Lopez all from Gallup. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends who love Santiago and will miss him.
Santiago was preceded in death by his father, José Rodriguez Jr.; his sister, Elizabeth Rodriguez; father-in-law, Alejandro Gurule; nieces: Clorinda Gallegos and Elizabeth Gallegos; brothers-in law: Peter DeBassige, Jose Zamora and Walter Gurule; sisters-in-law: Merlinda Sandoval and Sophie Salas; aunts and uncles, Delphinia Valdez, Florencio Blea, Gabino Blea, Vidal Blea, Santiago G. Rodriguez, Angel Rodriguez and Johnny Rodriguez, and Toni Garcia; grandson, Jose Rodriguez; paternal grandparents: José Rodriguez, Sr. and Gomesinda Rodriguez; maternal grandparents: Vicente Blea and Emilia Blea; grandparents-in-law: Inez and Donaciano Marez, Buelita and Buelito Gurule.
Pallbearers will be: Richard and Roger Rodriguez, Khalid, Ernesto and Santiago Monawar and Peter DeBassige Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Andrew, Gage, Christopher, and Ronnie Rodriguez, Jr., Joey D'Martino, Ted Gonzales, Ted Gallegos, Joe Guzman, and Rudy Lopez.
